“One source of names during the 3rd Quarter of the 17th Century is to be found on the series of small copper coins or brass tokens (tradesman’s) issued at the time becouse of the shortage of official small change.   This source may be of use to genealogists becouse the wif’s initials and the trade of the issuer are often recorded.   Most known tokens are listed by County, Town or Village of issue in the Catalogue ‘Trade Tokens Issued in the 17th Century’ edited by G C Williamson.   Reprinted in1967.   585 Kent Tokens listed on pages 347 - 389.   The author of this item then goes to list Kent Tokens by name and this includes one Chittenden, as follows:-

The reversion of tenements in the Parish of St Brigid in Fletestrete, after the decease of Joanne, his wife, charged with maintenance of a Chatry in the said Parish Church.   Tenements in Sholane and Fletestrete in the suburb of London to be sold by his Executors after the decease of his said wife, and the proceeds distributed at their discretion.   Dated at Fletestrete, Monday the Feast of Saony Edward, Confessor (13 Oct) AD 1337.   Roll 64.
